The thing about Winning

Ten years ago I was a first year business owner- a cheer gym owner – and coach of a team that had a very losing season.

They didn’t just lose, they came in LAST every single competition we went to… Like dead last. But finally, at the VERY last event of the entire season, they got their first and only win. And here’s the thing- at the time, I really thought that win was what made me (and them) successful.

Ten years later, what I know for sure is this: the win was never the success. The success was the people that stuck by my side loss after loss. It’s easy to stand next to someone when they cross the finish line, but what you want is the people who cheer you on when you lag behind in the race. ✨

Fail at Failure

Fail at failure

If there’s one thing we should all be okay with failing at, it’s failure.

The problem is, we are all so consumed with never failing that we’re taking less risks and trying less new things. We’re becoming a society that’s set in our ways, by the books, and convinced that our version of success has to look like everyone elses.

It doesn’t. We’re failing ourselves by becoming stagnant. We’re failing ourselves by doing the same mundane tasks over and over. We’re failing ourselves when we avoid trying anything new. We’re failing because we choose the path we’ve already traveled over and over instead of adventuring somewhere new.

Here are Seven Motivational quotes to keep you moving forward- and to help remind you that the only real failure lies in never trying.

“The fears we don’t face become our limits.”

“Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing your other three tires because you got one flat.”

“Success teaches you nothing, but failure teaches you resiliance.”

“Doubt kills more dreams that failure ever will.”

“Failure is not the oppostite of success, failure is a part of success.”

“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiam.”

“Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all of the facts.”

“Your speed doesn’t matter, forward is forward.”

“The only reason people are trying to extinguish your fire is because they can’t light a match to start their own.”

“Remember, even if you fall, you’re still moving forward.”

Option B- Sheryl Sandberg

I’ve been a fan of Sheryl Sandberg since before she wrote Lean In and her new book is wonderful. It’s so, so important in today’s society to understand how to cope as adults when things change, don’t work out, or we are forced to move forward when all we feel is stuck.

I wasn’t a fan of Lean In and found it very unrealistic to average American women- but Option B hits the nail on the head. It explores grief and human connection, it explores being stuck, and most importantly it explores how to keep moving forward.

I really recommend this book and think it’s something that everyone should have on their bookshelves.

Choose Belief

Life meets you at the intersection of where you choose to believe in yourself.

The universe will help you put your dreams into motion, as long as you choose to believe that those dreams really can come true.

When you choose to see the world around you as working in your favor and lining you up to succeed, you’ll soon see that the universe has always been on your side; and – eventually, everything connects.

Choose belief.

Because it’s always better to be a bull in the ring than a calf in the slaughterhouse.
